Quick Overview
The Marriott Waikoloa is located on the Big Island’s sunny Kohala Coast on the leeward side of the island. It’s a perfect location with close proximity to Anaeho’omalu Bay for swimming and snorkeling. Or just relax at one of the three pools on the property.
Not only is it a great hotel, it’s one of the better deals points-wise for a Marriott hotel on the island.
Booking the Waikoloa Beach Marriott
Marriott hotels are tricky to book with points as they don’t offer a great points value when you compare them to Hyatt properties. But with some strategy and flexible timing, it’s not unrealistic to get five or six nights for free from opening up a couple of cards. Marriott’s reward system uses dynamic pricing for points that vary similarly to the cash rate of a room. You may find that some nights you get more value from your points compared to the cash rate than others.
Generally speaking, a room at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott is around $600 per night, excluding taxes and resort fees. Depending on the time of year, that rate can fluctuate quite a bit. Looking at May 2024, the average nightly rate is around $597 and points needed per night range from 48,000 – 71,000 per night.

Earning Points to Book the Waikoloa Beach Marriott
At the time of writing, by getting this card you can earn three free certificates worth up to 50,000 points per night (clicking the link will show you the most up to date offer). Because some of the nights cost more than 50,000 points, you can use additional Marriott points to “top up” and book a room that costs up to 65,000 points per night.
In that scenario, having two cards would let you earn free night certificates as well as enough points that can be transferred to Marriott either “top up” nights that cost more than 50,000 points or book an additional night for free.
And BONUS: Marriott often runs promotions that offer your fifth night free, so you could potentially get an extra night for free if you time it right. That is a pretty exceptional value.
Why We Love the Waikoloa Beach Marriott
There are a lot of great things about the Waikoloa Beach Marriott, but one of the best is the location. We love that it is located on Anaeho’omalu Bay, as many hotels on the Big Island require a drive to the beach. Its location in Waikoloa means it’s just a quick drive to a number of different food options if you don’t want to always eat at the hotel.
Plus, it’s not nearly as large as some of the other big resorts (looking at you, Hilton), so it doesn’t feel overwhelming to walk around.
What to Know Before Booking the Waikoloa Beach Marriott
While we think the Waikoloa Beach Marriott is a great option, especially when you’re booking with points, there are a few things you should know:
- Parking and resort fees are expensive and are in addition to the room rate
- Rooms have two double beds rather than two queen beds
- The interior is a bit bland and unexciting — but we like to spend most of our time outdoors anyway!
